MISS VULCAN
1939
Synopsis

is in the eye of the beholder, in this tale that transports present day
Birmingham
,
Alabama
, back to 1939 and even to mythical
Rome
. Audience members are enlisted to
participate in this frolicking and campy tale of competition, hypocrisy and
class warfare.
After
insulting the revered statue of the Vulcan in his
Birmingham

Alabama
, park, a tour group is transported back to 1939 to relive the contest that
crowned Miss Vulcan 1939. Of course,
three of the city’s debutantes expect one of them to win, but when it appears
that Evelyn Tully, the Kresses Five and Dime store clerk, may enter the fray,
the debutantes want to make sure that status maintains its role on top of the
heap. .
Using their sexual, culinary and
blackmailing talents, the debs spare no effort to win the contest.
However, they don’t have a lovesick young inventor and a loyal store
owner on their side. Will Miss
Vulcan even be from
Birmingham
? After all, ladies from the
audience are competing, too. In the
end, love must conquer all, mustn’t it?
